About

Platform was started during the 23-24 school year by Ryan McGurk and Connor Gilbert. The two of them sought to create a film/video club which focused on political and non-canonical works. Most importantly to cultivate an environment where students were encouraged to think critically about this artform. The first semi-official Platform screening coincided with the 2024 pro-Palestine encampments and featured the 2004 film Arna's Children. Since then we have faced many issues in our regular programming but featured a true jewel of a series: our Third Cinema Retrospective. This series inspired hot debate, brought in many friends and faces outside of board's immediate circles, and weaved together to make a genuinely intellectually exciting time to participate in the club.

Our goal continues to be the same. Bring good, political, and critical cinema to students at UCLA.
